Seminar Diplomer (Do/Fr, 19./20. Januar) "Aktive Arbeitsmarkpolitik "

Unemployment is an important focus of public policy, mainly in the form of active labor market policies.  The goal of these programs is to increase the probability of the unemployed to find jobs, preferably jobs that are long lasting and that provide adequate wages and to increase their productivity, thereby improving their economic situation and reducing the social problems associated with high unemployment. In this seminar, we will investigate active labor market policies in Germany and other countries and discuss recent advances to improve their rates of return.

Education and the acquisition of skills is a lifelong process. However, recent research has found evidence that investments in skill development are particularly valuable, since early childhood education programs have particularly high social and economic returns. In this seminar, we will investigate the process of skill formation over the life-cycle and we discuss the implications for public policy.
