European Teaching Award for Katharina Hartinger

Katharina Hartinger, M.Sc., joined the Chair of Public and Behavioral Economics in October of 2022. Known within the economics community for her passion for teaching, she has recently received the European Economic Association’s inaugural Award for Exceptional Teaching in the early-career category. The award recognizes her talent for designing and teaching a wide range of economics courses – a talent that she is excited to develop further at JGU.

The selection committee praised her excellent evaluation results and creative approach to digital teaching during the Covid pandemic. Katharina Hartinger, who had already won the Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching at KU Eichstaett-Ingolstadt, impressed the EEA’s education committee with an extensive application portfolio with statements from numerous students: "I am still in contact with many students from previous years and asked them for a few personal thoughts about my teaching." The large amount of feedback was a surprise: "These are real people for whom I have made a difference. I was very touched by the statements.”
